Last night, while watching The Amazing Race (hubs and I are always a bit behind with TV, the show aired last Sunday!) I decided to try out Sally Hansen’s Complete Salon Manicure nail polish in Yellow Kitty. I <3 banana yellows. The concept is simple; a base coat, nail lacquer, top coat in one. I figure this type of polish could be a formula perfect for travel, no need for the base/top coat steps- less bottles, less to pack, etc. Let’s do it!
First off, THAT BRUSH! Look at that perfection. Glides on like butter, and doesn’t have weird square edges. It’s slightly rounded on both sides. This fit the base of my nail like it was made for my nail beds. I actually got Jewel’s hit single from 1996 in my head- which I hadn’t thought about in years. I used to love that tune!
After 2 thin coats, I noticed it was still quite see-thru (as pictured to the left). The polish wasn’t completely translucent, but the streaks were apparent. This tends to be the case for a lot of yellow polishes though I’m not so sure why. I can’t fault the Sally Hansen line but it’s something to note. Yellow Kitty required 4 thin coats.
About 30 minutes after finishing my new manicure, I laid down to sleep. As you may have noticed, I paint my nails ALL the time! Painting my nails a half hour before bed isn’t that unusual. I fall asleep with my hands in a position where they aren’t smooshed between blankets- I wake up, and voila! I’m ready to go. My polish is perfectly dried and UNsmudged. That is, until last night. Dang it Sally Hansen’s Yellow Kitty!
The final picture was taken this morning. There’s still some shine to the manicure but the blotchy blanket marks bugged me all day! The good news is- I had little to no tip wear. The bad news is- after less than 24 hours, I can’t stand to look at it anymore. Yellow Kitty, you’re so sloppy! I’m removing you and replacing you with Sally Hansen’s Fairy Teal immediately. Stay tuned for pics loves.
*edit: another bonus of using one polish- the removal was a piece of cake! No waiting to soak thru additional layers.
